Huyton ( April 2011)

Pupils from Mosscroft Primary School in Huyton together with Knowsley Housing Trust (KHT) and Bramalls Construction have put together a collection of items which they felt would most represent their lives today to bury in a Time Capsule that will not be unearthed for another 50 years. It has been buried under a new development by KHT at Tiverton Close which will provide 49 new homes. The children of the future will be able to read The Liverpool Echo and Knowsley Challenge from the day the Time Capsule was buried on Wednesday 20th April 2011; and see photographs of the children wearing the fashions of the day. Also included were Liverpool FC and Everton FC programmes; handprints of the school children; photos of the development being built; school newsletters; Living in Knowsley magazine and much more. Steve Heverin, KHT Operational Director of Investment, said: “We really wanted to involve the local community in this project. The children have done a great job and it is amazing to think that in 50 years time people will be given a glimpse into life in 2011 from the items we have buried.” Mosscroft headteacher Miss Jill Albertina said: “ The project has been a fantastic opportunity for the Mosscroft Community to capture all that is special about our school, our families and our children. The experience was enjoyed by all who participated and secured a place in history for our community.”
St Albans Girl Guides ( March 2011 )

We held our Time Capsule burial ceremony yesterday. We had a fantastic time; the weather stayed dry and we had a lovely gathering of people including the Mayor of St Albans. The local press turned up so we hope to have something in the paper next week too.

A TIME Capsule was buried today to mark the start of building work at a new housing development. Islington and Shoreditch Housing Association will start building 36 new flats at the junction of High Road and Grange Park Road in Leyton, from next week. Thirty of these will be for affordable rent. The association demolished existing buildings in November. In their place they will be building flats ranging from three storeys to five storeys. Members of the association, the council, and councillors met to mark the start of the work and to bury a Time Capsule. The contents included a copy of the Waltham Forest Guardian, plans of the development, current photographs of Leyton High Road, and a T-shirt and programme from Leyton Orient Football Club. Chris Robbins, leader of the council, said: “We have watched substantial deterioration of this area over the years. This particular block has been an eyesore for years. So it's impressive they will be starting work here.” Colin Archer, director of development and new business at Islington and Shoreditch, said: “This Time Capsule celebrates the start of an important project. This is a prominent site and we hope to have the work complete before the start of the Olympics.” Work is due to be complete by March 2012.
